The Human Dolls Of Anatoly Moskvin Anatoly Moskvin is a Russian former journalist, college professor, and self-dubbed "necropolyst" with expert knowledge of cemeteries. For years, his hobby of collecting dolls hid a macabre obsession that drew upon his particular interests: digging up the dead and making dolls out of their corpses. After making his human dolls, he kept them in his home as his companions and lovers. "I kissed her once, then again, then again," Moskvin wrote about one of his dolls, made from the body of an 11-year-old girl. Police finally caught Moskvin in 2011, after years of increasi

Soviet Scientists Made This Two-Headed Dog

Soviet Scientists Made This Two-Headed Dog Image Of The Soviet Scientist And His Two-Headed Dog You’re looking at the horror film-esque result of an early transplant procedure by Soviet scientist Vladimir Demikhov. It’s more like a one-and-a-half dog. Demikhov grafted the head and forelegs of a smaller dog, Shavka onto a bigger dog, Brodyaga. The above photograph, which depicts a (briefly) living two-headed dog, is real. You're looking at the horror film-esque result of an early transplant procedure by Soviet scientist Vladimir Demikhov, and it's really more like a one-and-a-half dog—Demikhov successfully grafted the head and forelegs of a smaller dog, Shavka onto a bigger dog, Brodyaga. Both initially survived the procedure. Both could see and move around independently. Both died four days later. Demikhov attempted the experiment, with different subjects, over 24 times. In 1959, Soviet scientist Vladimir Demikhov actually managed to create a two-headed dog. After 23 tries that

Serial Killer John Wayne Gacy As An Infant

Image
Serial Killer John Wayne Gacy As An Infant Before American serial killer John Wayne Gacy was finally caught in 1978, he raped, tortured, and murdered at least 33 teenage boys and men in his Illinois home. But long before his murderous reign, during which he worked as a clown at children's birthday parties, John Wayne Gacy was just a normal boy. This is undeniably one of the most creepiest babies ever. John Wayne Gacy was convicted of the torture, rape, and murder of 33 males between 1972 until his arrest in 1978. He was dubbed the "Killer Clown" because he entertained children at parties and hospitals as "Pogo the Clown." On May 10, 1994, Gacy was executed by lethal injection. Gacy's Childhood Years John Gacy was born on March 17, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the second of three children and the only son born to John Stanley Gacy and Marion Robinson. From age 4, Gacy was verbally and physically abused by his alcoholic father. Despite the abuse, Gacy ad

The Last Victim Of Jack The Ripper

Image
The Last Victim Of Jack The Ripper The final victim of the infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper, Mary Jane Kelly was found murdered and mutilated on Nov. 9, 1888. When a rent collector entered the room she was staying in, he found Kelly on her bed with various body parts and organs cut out and placed beside her corpse. Kelly was far more mutilated than any of the other four victims that Jack the Ripper had killed in the Whitechapel and Spitalfields districts of London in the preceding months. Concealed behind Kelly's closed door, the Ripper took his time and spent nearly two hours carving up her body in various ways before sneaking away, never to be caught or even heard from again. Mary Jane Kelly (c. 1863 – 9 November 1888), also known as Marie Jeanette Kelly, Fair Emma, Ginger, Dark Mary and Black Mary, is widely believed to have been the final victim of the notorious unidentified serial killer Jack the Ripper, who murdered at least five women in the Whitechapel and Spitalfield

The Stanford Prison Experiment

Image
The Stanford Prison Experiment The Stanford Prison Experiment commenced on Aug. 14, 1971, after university psychology professor Philip Zimbardo divided student volunteers into two groups comprised of 11 guards and 10 prisoners in order to see how they would behave on their own inside a fabricated "prison." The goal was to assess how quickly and intensely even educated and intelligent people can turn cruel and sadistic under the right conditions and find out once and for all whether humans are inherently good or evil. In just six days, before the experiment had to be called off, the "guards" had repeatedly abused and humiliated the "prisoners" by spraying them with fire extinguishers and forcing them to clean toilet bowls with their bare hands. The study and the creepiest photos left behind provide a chilling look at what humans are capable of. The Stanford prison experiment (SPE) was a psychological experiment conducted in the summer of 1971. It was a two-

Radium Girls: The Women Who Fought for Their Lives in a Killer Workplace

Radium Girls: The Women Who Fought for Their Lives in a Killer Workplace Radium Girls Hundreds of young girls and women who worked in American watch factories during the 1920s were exposed to so much radium that they came home glowing in the dark. The prolonged exposure to radium — used in the luminous paint that coated the watch faces — caused their vertebrae to collapse, their jaws to swell up and fall off, and their lives to slowly end in agony while battling cancer At the onset of World War I, several factories were established across the United States to produce watches and military dials painted with a material containing radium, a radioactive element that glows in the dark. Hundreds of young women were hired for the well-paying painting jobs because their small hands were well suited for the exacting, detailed work. Radium had been discovered just 20 years earlier by French physicists Marie Curie and Pierre Curie, and its properties were not well known. Because it had been used

Genie Wiley, The "Feral Child"

Image
Genie Wiley, The "Feral Child" The young girl seen in this 1970 photo is Genie Wiley of California, otherwise known as the "feral child," barely able to walk at age 13. For her entire life, her father had abused her viciously, keeping her in a makeshift straitjacket and tying her to a children's toilet in a locked room all day. When she made any sound or did anything he didn't like, he'd growl and bare his teeth at her like a dog. Under such brutal conditions, Wiley never learned how to walk or speak. When this creepy photo was taken at a hospital just after she was rescued, her life inside a series of abusive institutions was only beginning. Her whereabouts today are unknown. Genie (born 1957) is the pseudonym of an American feral child who was a victim of severe abuse, neglect, and social isolation. Her circumstances are prominently recorded in the annals of linguistics and abnormal child psychology. When she was approximately 20 months old, her father

Harold Agnew carrying the plutonium core of the Nagasaki Fat Man bomb, 1945

Image
Harold Agnew carrying the plutonium core of the Nagasaki Fat Man bomb, 1945 Man poses for a quick picture while innocuously carrying what could be a lunch box. It is the Physicist Harold Agnew and he is holding the plutonium core of the Nagasaki “Fat Man" atomic bomb. There is something unsettling, perhaps even scary, about him having such a calm, relaxed and pleasant demeanor while casually holding something whose imminent detonation would be responsible for tens of thousands of deaths. A somewhat odd photo and not terribly exciting unless you are aware of the details. Harold Agnew’s smile sort of disconnects the viewer from the reality of the situation. That box is the direct cause of the deaths of approximately 70,000 people. That little box will change the course of history, and he’s holding it like it’s his lunch. The oddest thing here is that a whole group of scientists had photos of themselves posing with the plutonium core. They were proud of their invention, and the fact

Horrifying Moment Kissing Couple Plunge To Their Deaths From Abridge

Image
A couple tragically fell to their deaths while they were packing on the PDA after a night out in Peru, and the horrific moment was caught on CCTV. The pair, Maybeth Espinoz, and Hector Vidal were on their way home from a nightclub in Cusco last Saturday when they tragically plunged 50ft off the Bethlehem Bridge just after 1 am. In the disturbing footage, Maybeth and Hector were leaning against a railing on the bridge, while hugging and kissing each other. Maybeth, 34, was sitting on top of the metal railing with her legs wrapped around Hector, 36. During the public display of affection, Maybeth lost her balance and began to fall backward, taking Hector along with her. According to Panamerica, Maybeth was killed outright, while Hector sustained a fractured skull and later died in hospital. The couple were mountaineers who had moved to the Cusco region to work as tour guides. Their bodies have since been transferred to Ancash in northern Peru. All What's You Should Know— where you

Amber Pushed Her Husband Out Of A 25th Story Window

Image
Amber Pushed Her Husband Out Of A 25th Story Window Stories about women who murder their husbands tend to capture the public's attention, and the tale of Amber Hilberling defenestrating her husband Josh is no exception. In June 2011, Amber pushed Josh from a 25th story window in their Tulsa apartment. The two had been married for a year, and their relationship was tumultuous from the start. With a long history of both substance and physical abuse, the couple was in the process of splitting when the tragedy occurred. To pile onto the disaster and sadness of the catastrophe, Amber took her life in jail several years after Josh's death, leaving the couple's son, Levi, parentless. Was Josh's death a genuine mishap, or was it one of those killings that only looks like an accident? The facts about the murder of Amber Hilberling's husband made many question what truly happened in this Tulsa couple's troubling relationship. On June 7, 2011, Amber Hilberling pushed her h

Steven Spielberg sits in the mouth of the mechanical shark for Jaws. (1974–5) Rare behind-the-scenes photographs taken on the set of Jaws have surfaced 45 years after the classic film was released. The previously unseen colour snaps were taken by Charlsie Bryant, the script supervisor for the 1975 film, and they have been in her family ever since. Many of her photos show the huge rubber shark out of the water between shots as the crew maneuvered the 25ft mechanical model The model, which the cast and crew affectionately named Bruce, is seen with all of his mechanical parts on show. Other shots feature director Steven Spielberg and stars Richard Dreyfuss, Roy Scheider, and Robert Shaw. The pictures come in a brown faux leather photo album and were taken off the island of Martha's Vineyard, in Massachusetts, US. They have been consigned to sale with auctioneers Bonhams who are expecting offers of up to £3,700. The pictures include candid shots of Spielberg standing on a boat with no

Prisoner’s Hand Marks, 1944

Image
Prisoner’s Hand Marks, 1944 This photograph was taken after the German occupation of France during WWII. It depicts the wall of a torture chamber on the Boulevard Victor in Paris. The desperate hands of prisoners have inflicted themselves into the asbestos as the effects of electrical current became more than they could bear. Such happenings may be forgiven but can’t be forgotten, not with this document. The Parsian Roger Schall had been allowed by the Nazis to photograph life there during the war, but with the liberation, he took very different kinds of pictures-like this one-and his work was used in postwar prosecutions. Schall’s brother published a book of such pictures at war’s end, and it became a mandatory buy in Paris. Incoming prisoners were assigned a camp serial number which was sewn to their prison uniforms. Only those prisoners selected for work were issued serial numbers; those prisoners sent directly to the gas chambers were not registered and received no tattoos. Initial

The Sator Square

Image
The Sator Square A Sator Square (laid out in the SATOR-format), etched onto a wall in the medieval fortress town of  Oppède-le-Vieux , France The Sator Square (or the Rotas-Sator Square, or the Templar Magic Square) is a two-dimensional acrostic class of word square containing a five-word Latin palindrome. The earliest squares were found at Roman-era sites, all in ROTAS-form (where the top line is "ROTAS", not "SATOR"), with the earliest discovery at Pompeii (and also likely pre-A.D. 62). The earliest square with Christian-associated imagery dates from the sixth century.[b] By the Middle Ages, Sator squares had been found across Europe, Asia Minor, and North Africa. In 2022, the Encyclopedia Britannica called it "the most familiar lettered square in the Western world A significant volume of academic research has been published on the square, but after more than a century, there is no consensus on its origin and meaning. The Oath Skull from Germany is believed to date back to the 16th or 17th century. It is a human skull that features the Sator formula inscribed within a letter square. The significance and purpose of the Sator formula remain unclear, leading to various interpretations over the years. One proposed interpretation involves arranging the letters in a double Pater Noster (the Lord's Prayer) in the shape of a cross around the pivotal letter "N," while the remaining letters "A" and "O" represent alpha and omega, symbolizing the beginning and the end. This arrangement suggests a connection between the skull and religious symbolism. All What's You Should Know— where you'll discover the most interesting things that you Should know

Archaeologists have recently discovered a statue of Hercules in Philippi, Greece, which dates back over 2000 years. The statue, representing the Roman God Hercules (equivalent to the Greek Heracles and son of Zeus), symbolizes triumph over personal struggles and is revered as a protector of the vulnerable. Dating from 2 A.D., the statue was found attached to a building that dates from 7-8 A.D. A lavishly adorned structure, possibly a fountain, was also unearthed in close proximity to the statue. Philippi has long been recognized as an important archaeological site, and this discovery of a large Roman statue in the town square is one of the most significant findings thus far. Founded by Philip II, the King of Macedon, Philippi was established on the Thasian colony of Crenides near the Aegean Sea. However, it was abandoned after the Ottoman conquest in the 14th century. Despite its known archaeological value, excavation of the site did not take place until 1914. The statue depicts the de

Tollund Man, a Dane who died 2500 years ago. His body was discovered in 1950, and was so well preserved he was briefly mistaken by authorities as a recent murder victim. May 1950, peat cutters Viggo and Emil Hojgaard discovered a corpse in the peat layer of the Bjœeldskovdal peat bog just west of the Danish town of Silkeborg Denmark. The Tollund Man lay 60 m (200 ft) away from firm ground, buried under 2.5 m (8 ft 2 in) of peat, his body arranged in the fetal position. He wore a pointed skin cap of sheepskin and wool, fastened under his chin by a hide thong, and a smooth hide belt around his waist. Additionally, a noose made of plaited animal hide was drawn tight around his neck and trailed down his back. He was 40 years old, died around 400 BC according to radiocarbon dating, and it was later determined his last meal consisted of a porridge with barley, flax, wild weed seeds, and some fish. The cause of death has been determined as by hanging. Scholars believe the man was a human sacr

When Cupid hits a little too hard

Image
When Cupid hits a little too hard This miniature is part of one of the manuscripts of the Ovide Moralisé, created by an anonymous artist in the 14th century, as a moralizing reinterpretation of Ovid's text. The scene depicted is the one in which Apollo punishes Coronide - the princess of the Lapiths with whom he had fallen in love - for her betrayal with the young Ischi, by piercing her with one of his arrows. In Greek mythology, Coronis (/kɒˈrəʊnɪs/; Greek: Κορωνίς, translit. Korōnís) is a Thessalian princess and a lover of the god Apollo. She was the daughter of Phlegyas, king of the Lapiths, and Cleophema. By Apollo she became the mother of Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. While she was still pregnant, she cheated on Apollo with a mortal man named Ischys and was subsequently killed by the god for her betrayal. After failing to heal her, Apollo rescued their unborn child by performing a caesarean section. She was turned into a constellation after her death. The two character

"No, it's just that my personal trainer said I had to spit blood doing the new flat bench exercise." Today's splatter miniature features the hetera Leena of Athens also included in Boccaccio's encyclopedia of illustrious women - despite the fact that he considered her a lascivious person as a courtesan - because she sacrificed herself for an ideal. When Harmodius and Aristogitone killed the tyrant Hipparchus, having had a relationship with both and aware of the organization of the conspiracy, she was tortured with extreme cruelty by Hippias, brother of Hipparchus, to reveal what she knew about the accomplices murderers. At the end of her strength, in order not to feel obliged to speak, she bit her tongue amputating it with her teeth. According to some sources she was freed but died shortly after, according to Pausanias instead Hippias mistreated her to the point of killing her, as he believed that she could not be extraneous to the conspiracy.
