The soldier of the forgotten war, 1952 Seen here is a picture of Heath Matthews. Matthews was a signaller in the Canadian Army in the Korean war. The Korean war was a proxy war, which saw the South Korean democratic government (which was supported by the USA) fight a communist regime in North Korea (which was supported by the Soviets). Heath Matthews was 20 at the time of this picture but joined the Canadian Army at 18. In the photo, Matthew's face is covered in blood, and he is waiting for medical assistance. He had just taken part in an assault against an enemy position, which was being defended by Chinese troops. Two Canadians were killed, while Matthews suffered shrapnel injuries to his face from a Grenade....
