He was born in the town of Neumarkt in Bavaria in 1558 and was known for his brutal, sadistic and disturbing crimes. Niers was a member of a gang of bandits who roamed the countryside, robbing and killing anyone unfortunate enough to crossed their path. Niers was known for his cruelty and his willingness to kill without remorse. He was said to have killed 544 people, including 24 fetuses cut out of pregnant women—allegedly, the fetal remains were to be used in magical rituals. He was known for his use of torture, often mutilating his victims before killing them. He was also known for his use of poison, which he would use to kill his victims slowly and painfully.
