The “Chiesa dei Morti” Church of the Dead, is a small church located in the town of Urbania, Italy

The “Chiesa dei Morti” Church of the Dead, is a small church located in the town of Urbania, Italy. The church is famous for having several deceased bodies as display, in a small chapel located at the entrance of the church.

The corpses have been on display at the church since 1833, the corpses were naturally mummified as growing mold in the displays captured all the moisture from the body, leaving the bodies perfectly preserved.

The deceased bodies of these individuals were placed there by an ancient order called “The Brotherhood of Death”. The brotherhood was founded in 1567 with the sole purpose to provide free burial, and also to provide records of the deceased bodies.

Thanks to the brotherhood, today we know one of the bodies displayed in the church, died from heart failure. The deceased bodies range from several different causes of death, from dying while at work, to being murder.

Today the church receives thousands of visitors from around the world, from dark tourist, to paranormal researchers from around the globe, all coming to see the chapel of Death...
