The Rothschild family held a “Surrealist Ball” at their luxurious chateau in France in 1972

Invitations were sent with the following dress code (typed backwards): “black tie, long dresses & surrealist heads”

Servants and footmen aligned the staircase at the entrance, meowing and pawing at each other

Audrey Hepburn (pictured in a bird cage) was one of the attendees, and iconic surrealist painter Salvador Dalí helped design the event

One account of the event describes it, “Plates were covered in fur, tables decorated with taxidermied tortoises and food served on a mannequin corpse on a bed of roses”

During the 19th century, the Rothschild family had the largest private fortune in the world.
Today they are the subjects of many conspiracy theories and tend to keep a private life
