Meet Ötzi the iceman
This mummy was discovered in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps by 2 German tourists. The body is over 5,000 years old. The body is that of a man who died a mysterious but sinister death. He was given the name Ötzi, and he has become a legend within the world of archeology.
When he died, he was 46 years old age and was 5 feet 3 inches tall. He had a meal of ibex meat 2 hours before his death. Ötzi is thought to be of Italian origin. High levels of Copper and arsenic in his hair may indicate that he was involved in smelting metal. Due to the proportions of his leg bones it is also speculated that he regularly walked along hilly terrain for long amounts of time, leading researchers to believe he may have been a shepherd. He also has 61 tattoos.
Ötzi had arrow head in his left shoulder and a wound to the back of his head. Why he sustained these injuries is a mystery, but 1 or 2 people are thought to have been involved in his death. Items found around the body included tools, clothing and other applicants of everyday life. It is thought that Ötzi died where he was found.
