It can therefore be considered almost certain that Thomas had a rana of 19 centimeters.
This record still stands and there is even a wax statue of Thomas in the famous Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum in London.
Parents siblings?
Thomas was British and since childhood, people couldn’t help admiring his huge nose.
When Thomas was young, it was nearly a century before exhibitions of so-called “freaks” took place, but they were to have a big impact much later.
But who was the man with the big nose? Who was Thomas Wadhous.
He was born around 1730 and the story goes that his parents were siblings and inbreeding and an unfortunate mix of genes caused his nose to grow. But no one knows for sure.

It was rare, but not unheard of, in those days for individuals to charge a fee to indulge. But at a young age, Thomas joined a group of other “freaks” who had the same idea, and Thomas traveled with them around the British Isles.
People flocked to see the famous nose.
There’s even a detailed article about him in Anomalies and Curiosities of Medicine, a book that was the 19th century medical profession’s bible for all sorts of abnormalities of the human body.
The lion man wanted to be a dentist
Many of his fellow performing troupe were considered gifted with variations, some even with a near-gift of grace. For example, the famous Lionel the Lion, real name Stephan Bibrowski, was fluent in five languages, but his biggest dream was to become a dentist.
Lionel spoke five languages but dreamed of becoming a dentist.
The same could be said of the other members of the group, who were considered smarter than average, but Thomas had a completely different reputation than his companions.
Although he was keen to take advantage of his looks, Thomas was considered stupid by variations, and in the medical journal mentioned above says he “lives in a state of mind which may be described as the most miserable state of idiocy. ”
Like he’s lost his brain
Various other interesting things have been written about Thomas Wadhouse, as people were fascinated by this part of his body.
In a magazine published in 1897, it is said that “if the value of a person could be measured by his nose, Thomas would be the richest man in Europe”.
But Thomas’ talents and intelligence don’t seem to have matched the size of his nose, and so he was an easy target for self-proclaimed comedians.
In the same magazine, Thomas is also described as follows:
“His chin is weak and his eyebrows are too low. It’s as if nature put all its energy into making this prodigy a huge nose and had no more energy to give him a brain. Except that he had used to be a brain, but he brought it out of that big monstrous nose.”
It is unclear how Thomas ended up in the group of performers. Maybe he couldn’t find a job because of his looks or because of his limited intelligence.
Happiness?
Thomas died in his 50s, unmarried and childless Apart from newspaper articles and medical literature, there is not a word in a book about his real life. He left no diary, notebook or anything like that.
Was Thomas really that bad or was he an easy victim to bully? Was he literate and literate? Could inbreeding have caused damage to Thomas, both externally and internally? How did he deal with being constantly mocked and looked down upon?

No source mentions that Thomas had acquaintances, let alone friends? Wasn’t he alone? Did Thomas want to love and be loved?
It is suspected that Thomas’ life was not always happy.
